PACT Activities At DTM

With Community Education, there truly is something for everyone at DTM. In our Parent and Child Together (PACT) activities, we have had hundreds of families participate beginning with our Muffins with Mom event in September. This event featured a book reading and signing by our current school board member, Ms. Danielle Green. 180+ mothers and students filled the auditorium doors to listen to Ms. Green’s story of becoming an author, as well as reading and signing her book “Hey Pretty Girl”. October’s PACT event was Donuts with Dad, which over 120+ children along with their fathers gathered to eat donuts and drink apple cider while reading books together at the table. This event also featured guests from Fathers and Men Engaged to speak about the positive benefits of organizing a male role model group here at DTM of which 11 dads signed up to be at the forefront of this effort here at DTM.

We have hosted various family nights with school partners which included a 2 and ½ day blitz in yoga and mindfulness with Holistic Life Foundation. This visit was highlighted by a yoga and breathing lesson in every classroom, as well as a mindfulness lesson for the Courtyard party on September 11th. We have also hosted a Fall into reading Family night on October 22nd which also included activities to highlight advocacy for Lights on After School week in connection with the After School Alliance. Over 110 families attended this event.

In partnership with Rivers of Living Waters Ministries, we hosted a Harvest Celebration that included free food, games, candy bags and a game show for parents on October 27th. The event was attended by well over 250 parents and children.

In adult physical education, instructor Lynne Peterson has grown the B-Fit aerobic hustle class to over 95 unique participants, with an average of 45 per week since beginning September of 2018. Participants range in age and gender, which is truly something for everyone.
