HISTORY
Born from a simple idea to bring Flint together for a good cause, the Crim Fitness Foundation traces its roots back to August 1977, when Michigan House Speaker Bobby Crim and his assistant Lois Craig launched the first Bobby Crim 10 Mile Road Race as a fundraiser benefiting Special Olympics. What began as a single community race quickly grew into the iconic Crim Festival of Races and, over time, evolved beyond race weekend into a year-round nonprofit dedicated to improving health and well-being across Flint and Genesee County. Today, the Crim carries that original spirit forward by leveraging the energy and tradition of the races to support ongoing programs and partnerships that help thousands of residents build healthier habits, strengthen connections, and create a more vibrant community.
CRIM’S
THEORY OF
CHANGE
The Crim Fitness Foundation cultivates accessible, vibrant communities in Flint and Genesee County that encourage people to lead healthy lifestyles by integrating physical activity, healthy eating, and mindfulness into their daily lives and mentors other communities to do the same.
The Crim Fitness Foundation promotes whole-person wellness by supporting physical, mental, and social well-being across the community. Through school programs, community activities, and partnerships, the Crim helps people of all ages stay active, build resilience, and form meaningful connections. By creating inclusive opportunities to move, reflect, and engage with others, the organization helps individuals and communities grow healthier, stronger, and more connected.
