Safe Routes to School

Safe Schools, Safe Neighborhoods

Since 2008, the Crim Fitness Foundation has partnered with the Michigan Fitness Foundation to improve safety for kids walking and biking to and from school through the Safe Routes to School program. Over the years, millions of dollars have been invested in infrastructure improvements like sidewalks, crosswalks, pedestrian signals and lighting. In addition, schools have implemented safe walking programs for families who walk to school each day and Bike Clubs for young bike enthusiasts! In the City of Flint, 9 elementary schools and 2 high schools have Safe Routes to School teams.
