Rules & Regulations

  • HAP Tour de Crim will have a partially closed course. Participants must follow the designated course at all times and must follow all traffic laws! Local law enforcement and officials will assist with traffic. Riders must follow behind the lead vehicle, which will NOT exceed an average of 15mph. Riders who pass the lead vehicle will not be under the protection of traffic officials and will be riding at their own risk and will need to obey all traffic laws.
  • All ages welcome (with a few important considerations). We’re excited to announce that all ages are welcome to ride in the HAP Tour de Crim, but we do not recommend that young children without adequate cycling experience ride.
    • All participants, including children, are required to wear helmets and all children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
    • Please understand that if your children are riding their own bicycles, they need to have experience riding a similar distance in a group, and that they should be on a bicycle that can handle traveling 10+ miles. The ride is SAG-supported, but the expectation is that all riders are capable of completing a hilly 10-mile ride within 2 hours.
    • If you are riding with a toddler or infant in a trailer, trail-a-bike, or in a child seat, it is not necessary to register the infants, but they will not receive a shirt, or bib. Non-registered infants/youth must have a parent/legal guardian sign their waiver. All registered participants will receive a t-shirt, bib, and beverage of choice.
    • Every child riding his/her own bicycle must be registered. If you plan on having your young child ride along on a trail-a-bike, please ensure they have experience riding with you for distances over 10 miles.
    • Due to the nature of the hilly course, it is strongly recommended children’s bicycles have gearing to accommodate steep inclines.
    • It is required all children wear helmets. (see pg. 21 for TIPS FOR FITTING A BIKE HELMET in the “What Every Michigan Bicyclist Must Know” booklet.)
  • ALL participants MUST start at 12pm to accommodate road closures.
  • ALL participants must sign a waiver to participate. Participants under the age of 18 must have a parent/legal guardian sign their waiver. Participants who do not sign a waiver will be ineligible to participate.
  • ALL participants MUST wear helmets. No exceptions.
  • Park bicycles in the designated bike corrals. Bicycle bib numbers must match participant bibs in order to leave corrals.
  • Participants will have up to two hours to participate in the ride.
  • Please be advised HAP Tour de Crim will begin reopening streets after 2pm.
  • Festivities will continue at Tenacity Brewing until 4pm.
  • Bicycles must be in good operating condition. Visit your local bike shop to get a tune up prior to the event.
  • Be courteous to fellow riders. This non competitive ride is intended to challenge everyone to have fun and be active, even if you’ve never ridden more than a mile!
  • We encourage participants to ride on the Flint River Trail and Genesee Valley Trail after completing the HAP Tour de Crim. Standard traffic rules apply. Trail riders will be riding the course at their own risk and will not be protected under the Crim Fitness Foundation.
