First Crim Memories

Do you remember signing up for your first race? For Erica Crawford, it was the Crim in 2005.

“The Crim was the first race I ever ran,” recalls Erica. “It was the summer of 2005.” Erica had been a casual runner for only a few years. ‘Never more than 3-5 miles at a time and infrequently at best.”

When a friend of hers suggested they sign up to run the Crim, her first response was “what’s the Crim?” (She didn’t grow up near Flint and was clueless.) Her second response was – “do people really pay to run?”

Before Erica knew it, she was registered for the race, and to this day is thankful she did.

“We registered for the 8k distance. Race day came, and once I entered the starting chute along Saginaw St., I could sense an energy like I had never felt. That feeling carried me through the race, and I understood now why this was such a valuable investment! I was hooked. Countless races of all distances later – including my first Boston Marathon qualifier – I remain plugged into the joyful culture of running and racing. The Crim is special to me every year in this way.”
