Flint Community Education Initiative to host mentoring kick-off celebration

A special gathering for leadership and learning will take place at Mott Community College’s Regional Technology Center Sept. 26.

From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., parents, mentors and students will attend the Flint Community Education Initiative’s 2018-2019 “Success Mentoring Kick-off Celebration.”

The purpose of the event will be to inform community members about the value of mentoring in schools and attract members to get involved as success mentors through Community Education at Flint Community Schools. The event will highlight all the opportunities available at FCS for mentors to get involved.

Ja’Nel Jamerson, executive director of the Flint and Genesee Literacy Network, will be the keynote speaker at the event, which includes dinner and hands-on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) activities for students.

Children won’t be the only honored guests as mentors in attendance will receive Success Mentoring Handbooks and parents will learn more about Flint Community Education Initiative resources.

The invitation-only event is funded through the Success Mentoring Initiative at Johns Hopkins University.
