Flint Celebrates MLK Through Service

When you think of MLK Day, you think of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s remembrance. But do you think of a day of volunteer efforts?

In Flint, MLK Day is a day of action and service to the community. Many volunteer efforts throughout Flint took place from the Big Brothers Big Sisters Mentoring Inspiration breakfast, the Youth Tribute at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, a water giveaway at First Trinity, to the annual program at the Flint Public Library, and volunteer efforts throughout the city.

The largest volunteer event among all other Flint MLK activities took place at the Dort Federal Event Center. The United Way of Genesee County rounded up 550 volunteers to help pack 120,000 meals to donate to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan and local food pantries.
