International Academy Of Flint

International Academy of Flint is the place to be!  Every second Tuesday of the month, we welcome Involved Dad to IAF for our early morning “We Greet our Students.” Involved Dad, an nonprofit organization, is comprised of local community leaders, pastors, professionals, retirees… that are committed to instilling hope and  actively helping to change the trajectory of our students, especially our boys and young men.  We appreciate the energy, high-fives, smiles, positive words of encourage and affirmations.  Our students and staff truly appreciate you being here and helping to start our week off strong!

We had an awesome Fall Harvest Festival in collaboration with Flint Kids Read, Genesee Health Plan, CrimFit Nutrition, Parent Connection and YouthQuest.  Activities included storytelling, arts and crafts and healthy food tasting, Lights On Afterschool Advocacy and cookie decorating.  There were over 350 students, parents, community volunteers and partners in attendance. As we build our community here at IAF, it is important for us to provide opportunities for parent and child activities, but also family to family time to cultivate a network support between families, and with community partners to learn more about available community resources.

In partnership with administration, staff, IAF’s Board of Directors, we are happy to announce “Our Time of Giving” Thanksgiving Basket distribution will take place on Friday, November 16, 2018.  Over 50 families have been identified to receive a “basket” filled a traditional Thanksgiving meal staples to lessen the financial burden this holiday season. We are grateful for our families and partners!

Approximately 50 elementary aged students are participating in Robotics at IAF. Currently, students are participating in First Lego League Jr., First Lego League and First Tech Challenge.  Twice a week under the guidance of staff mentors, students pair STEM concepts along with trial and error to solve team challenges.  Students are excited and look forward to the upcoming Robotics Competition on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Kettering University’s First Center. It is important to provide our students with rigorous and robust opportunities to cultivate their enthusiasm and interest in STEM programming.

Singing for a Cause!  The IAF Community Justice Choir meets Tuesday evenings from 4:30 PM until 6:00 PM in the choir room under the direction of IAF’s music/band teacher Mrs. Heather Tucker.  Join IAF staff, administration and community members as they join together in song. No experience required or necessary. Fun guaranteed!

New programming this session includes Elementary Basketball for grades Kindergarten through sixth grades and cheerleading for grades third through sixth.

Looking ahead to next year, we are excited to resume our partnership with 4-H and establish our new partnership with Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan.  Additional adult education opportunities will come with the new year.

We love to provide unique and fun programming for students and adults!  If you are interested in sharing your talents and skills in a school-setting after school, please contact Ms. Jonique S. Donald, Community School Director directly at (810) 600-5252 or by email at jdonald@crim.org.  We are actively seeking fresh, innovative and high quality partners for the second session of our inaugural year as a Community School.
