Family Play Date At Eisenhower

The smooth sounds of Jazz and the smell of perfectly seasoned baked chicken filled the hallways at Eisenhower on a calm October Saturday morning. Families entered the Cadet Community Room ready to learn what all the fuss was about – many asking, “what is a Family Play Date anyway?” Dwayne and Sonyita Clemons, of Total Life Prosperity, LLC, and the Community Education team welcomed each family with warm smiles, eager to share what the new program was all about.

Family Play Date is a monthly offering, designed to bring families together to learn more about health and how to make the information they learn, work for their family. The topic for the October session was Planning, Preparing and enjoying meals together, as a family. Participants were encouraged to define “family” as it fit their unit and learned about portion sizes; seasonings; My Plate model; and many other items related to making healthy meals more exciting.

Dwayne and Sonyita prepared a delicious lunch of baked chicken, sauteed vegetables, red potatoes and a chef salad with optional toppings. Families accepted the challenge to create a colorful plate. The fun did not stop there, the parents/caregivers, along with their children learned exercises for the entire family. The dynamic duo of Total Life Prosperity provided a demonstration of a Hustle Aerobics class that they instruct on Wednesdays evenings at Eisenhower. The families loved the music and the new exercises!

The next Family Play Date will be Saturday, November 17, 2018 11:00 am 1:00 pm. To join us, register your family by calling (810) 767-8127 or emailing jrobinson@crim.org. Space is limited!
