What is the Flint Community School Corps?
The Flint Community School Corps is an national service program implemented by the Crim Fitness Foundation and serving in the Flint Community Schools at twelve sites.
What is AmeriCorps?
AmeriCorps is a service opportunity unlike anything else offered nationally. AmeriCorps State and VISTA members serve 1700 hours over the course of a year (approximately 35-hours per week) in Flint Community Schools helping the students and the community. For your service, you will receive a stipend that is distributed bi-weekly during the course of the year.
What are the benefits of service?
During their year of service, members receive a bi-weekly living stipend. For the 2018-19 program year, the pre-tax living stipends are $13,732 for State members and $12,311 for VISTA members. Along with this stipend, members receive an Education Award of approximately $5,920 upon completion of a successful term. This award can be used to pay for current or future education expenses. You will also have the option of enrolling in free healthcare during your service term. Monthly professional developments are offered throughout the course of your
service year that facilitates skills development and professional knowledge.
What is the difference between service as an AmeriCorps State or VISTA member?
The Flint Community School Corps includes two streams of service - AmeriCorps State and VISTA members. Education Coordinators and Physical Activity Coordinators are AmeriCorps State members, and serve in direct service roles with students. VISTA members serve in capacity-building roles within school, helping to create partnerships, connect resources, and build sustainability within schools and communities.
