The Crim Fitness Foundation supports a Community School Corps comprised of AmeriCorps State and VISTA members who provide during/after-school and summer learning activities for K-12 grade students and build capacity for community education in all Flint Community schools. Flint Community School Corps members serve in schools to deliver educational programming; create systems to connect the school administration, parents, social service supports and community members in ways that improve academic outcomes; and recruit and manage a core pool of parent and community volunteers. Currently in its third year of programming, the FCSC has 4 member slots in each of the 11 Flint Community Schools, including Community Resource Developer VISTA, Family Engagement VISTA, Education Coordinator, and Physical Activity Coordinator.

Celeste Lord

Phone: 810-201-8515 | Email: clord@crim.org

Celeste migrated to Flint from the Appalachian hills of Tennessee where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and Electronic Media from the University of Tennessee. Having grown up in Southern California, she thought Tennessee was cold! While she enjoyed the rolling hills and country landscape, she found that isolation between neighbors hindered the growth of community and resources to fight poverty.

She came to Flint excited to serve as an Americorps VISTA with the City of Flint’s Blight Elimination Division where she assisted communities fighting deterioration in their neighborhoods. She learned that through camaraderie and hard work, community can always be achieved. Celeste spends her free time volunteering at local cleanups, volunteering as a hospice companion, and can often be found at Shift Boutique in Downtown Flint. She will also go out of her way to hear the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Flint Steel Drum Band perform.
