($)100K For Crim Success!

Running 100K To Raise $100,000

Like many nonprofits, the Crim Fitness Foundation has adapted quickly to the many tough circumstances presented by 2020 and COVID-19. Whether it was the decision to make the HAP CareSource Crim Festival of Races virtual for the first time ever, or the closing of our Community Schools, we had to find new ways to serve the community despite financial challenges.

When Zach Crim, grandson of our Founder Bobby Crim, heard about this, he was determined to not let the critical programming suffer.  Zach came up with the idea of running 100 kilometers with the goal of raising $100,000 in support of our programming.

On September 13, Zach ran the full 100 kilometers (62 miles) from the State Capitol in Lansing to the Crim Finish Line. This is the equivalent of two and a half marathons.

Zach not only completed this ultramarathon to honor his grandfather’s legacy but also, to bring awareness to Crim programs and sustain them during this difficult time. Zach understands what the Crim means to this community and the access to health and wellness programming it offers to thousands of residents.

The Results Are In

We were overwhelmed with the generosity of the community!  Through the support of many sponsors, donors, and, of course, the entire Crim family, we were able to exceed Zach’s goal and raised a total of $110,936!

“To say I’m proud of him, is not enough, a great young man and he knows what it’s all about,” said founder Bobby Crim.

Zach’s “Why” – The Reason Behind The Run

“When you’re running this far, you really have to find your why,” explained Zach. “Today, my why was better than any other reason I’ve ever had.”

The Crim Fitness Foundation is committed to serving a leadership role in advancing the national agenda for improving health in our communities. This means we believe we can be a catalyst for authentic change.

Our response to the epidemic of childhood obesity has been to provide mindfulness, physical activity, and nutrition education to over 10,000 youth in the City of Flint, Genesee County, and beyond, each and every day.

We see the social and economic impact of adults not finding time to be physically active, so we look for ways to offer health and wellness programs to meet everyone’s needs.

When we see that families have nowhere to go to walk, ride their bikes, and enjoy the outdoors together, we increase our efforts toward ensuring that our communities are committed to improving our parks, that there are safe routes to school, that our streets are more bicycle-friendly, that civic and community leaders are collaborating to improve trails, signage, and more.

When we see youth needing another step forward in education, we give them extra support in Greater Flint area schools through free after school programming as well as families needing mindfulness practices.

All these things add up to a quality of life and environment that not only will benefit families and encourage youth to stay here to help build the 21st-century economy but will also attract energetic and creative people from everywhere to come here and make Genesee County their home too.
