Over the years, Teachout Security Owner Joe Cozart has watched the City of Flint evolve from a bustling community to a post-industrial town fighting to get back on its feet after decades of financial heartache. Joe believes it is the responsibility of the entire county to support Flint and help bring hope and healing to Flint residents — especially its kids.
As one of the Crim’s newest Chairman Circle members, Joe (on behalf of Teachout Security) is pledging $10,000 to the Crim Fitness Foundation, making it possible for the Crim to match up to $10,000 in donations received through the end of the year.
It was through up close and personal experience with the Crim that Joe realized he wanted to get involved. He had the opportunity to find out what the Crim was all about after Teachout Security began to provide security during afterschool programs at the Flint Community Schools through the Crim-coordinated Community Education Initiative.
“Working with the schools was eye-opening to us. There is a lot of need there,” said Joe. “It’s easy to say ‘it’s not my concern’, but kids don’t have control over their situations. It’s our job as adults to give them hope and create a foundation that will allow them to be successful.”
Joe believes that everyone in Genesee County is interconnected and that the City of Flint deserves his support just as much as his hometown of Flushing.
“Flint has supported me and allowed me to have my business here and live the life I’ve always wanted,” said Joe. “I decided that it was time to step up and give back.”
